Clearly Undead
November 2019
Weirdly enough, this piece was made for an assignment for my figure drawing class. Our instructor encouraged us to do a 3D piece, so naturally I wanted to sculpt a hand out of glass. As soon as she presented the prompt for the project I envisioned a post-apocolyptic world where a nuclear reaction caused all life to change its chemical composition. Glass is made out of silicon dioxide which is found in common sand, so what would happen if everything in the natural world turned into glass? In this scenario, all of the plants and anything buried beneath the ground would be turned into glass; including all of the zombies that resurfaced. This piece is just a taste as to what that world might look like.
Materials:
Hand and plants: hot sculpted glass
Terrarium: stained glass
This piece was displayed in the “Mini Vitro” gallery exhibition at Glass Axis from November 22nd, 2019 to January 4th, 2020.
